PFRDA was created by the Government of India on 23rd August 2003. Bill PFRDA, 2005 and is awaiting approval by Parliament. Pending the adoption of this law, the Government, through an executive order dated October 10th 2003, commissioned PFRDA to play a role regulating the sector pensions. PFRDA mandate is to develop and regulate the pensions in India.
The new pensions system reflects the Government’s efforts to find lasting solutions to the problem of providing adequate income for retirement. As a first step towards reforms, retired, Government of India has moved from the knowledge of the pension benefit to defined contribution-based pension system by making it mandatory for new recruits (excluding armed forces) 1st from January 2004. 1st since April 2008, and pension contributions for Central Government employees covered by the new pension system (NPS) is being invested by fund managers occupational pension in line with the guidelines for investment from the government that apply to non-government provident funds.
Twenty-two (22) State / UT Governments have also notified of a new system of pensions for new employees. Of these, six countries have already signed agreements with the agents of the structure of those same sources PFRDA to move forward in implementing the new system of pensions. And other states are in the process of finalizing documents.
